Lake Trasimeno is the largest lake in the Italian peninsula situated to the south of Po River covering 128km square of surface area. This is a well known tourist destination these days, covered with wide variety of nature and ethnic natural meadows this lake and its surrounding places make it an ideal spot for vacation.  The lake offers suggestive and poetic atmosphere in winter and colorful and festive environment in summer, the lake is surrounded by the bathing establishments and sea and in the evening the surrounding medieval villages organize thematic festivals and events which enhances their local products, music, concerts and a wide variety of local cousins.

The area in and around the Lake Trasimeno is surrounded by hills, rich in olives. On the western shores near village Tuscany there are Vineyards and farms where fruits and Vegetables are grown. The lake is surrounded by many villages and isolated castles like a Zoco castle and Tower near passignano.  There are almost three lakes in the Lake; these are Isola polvese, Isola Maggiore and the isola Minore. The Isola Maggiore is the only inhabited island with around 30 families. On the Lake side shores there is a beach and ferries available for these islands.

There are many medieval villages surrounding the Lake Transimeno. Tuoro sul, Piagaro Characterized by hilly territory and surrounded by olive grooves, woods and Vineyards. Passignano on Trasimeno is village which has one 18th century villa called as the Castle of Monteruffiano the former capuchin monastery. Panicale is a small village and the first free commune of Italy. The famous Chestnut Festival held in October and the Feast of the cobs held in September is a great attraction of the village. Apart from these festivals there are many noted places which are worth visiting. Pacciano, Castiglione del Lagoare is some of the other villages. The Maggione village has castle of the knights of the Malta, Leave Niccone offers the festival of Bringoli in July which offers various dishes of Umbria and series of related events with music theatre and sporting events.  Citta della Pieve will introduce you to the “narrowest alley in Italy” which is almost 50cm wide.

The Lake Trasimeno is relatively far from every Major Italian city but the nearest is Perugia. Via railway the main station is Terontolo Smaller stations include Passignano and Castiglione del Lago. Via road you can use the Highway from passignano’s to Perugia, smaller roads like statal 75 are situated on western side of the lake, Via ferries you  can use in Passignano Port and there e is new port built in Castiglione del Lago and many more small anchor locations.

All these places and the surrounding villages have made Lake Trasimeno an interesting spot of vacation and tourism. The hotels in the area have came up with unique ideas of providing tourists with villas which are sculptured like old days but are filled with all the modern amenities including Swimming pools. A place worth visiting.
