Semi is back! We have been selling our French enamel industrial Paris shades since we started trading back in 1999. In fact I myself have been selling these shades since the early 1970s when I was working in the Fulham Road. I was introduced to these pendant lights by my good friend Jacques who had a marvelous lighting shop in Paris just near the Pompidou centre and we used to exchange suppliers names and addresses. We were very sorry to hear that the French company that had produced these since the early 20th century had decided to cease trading at the end of 2009. Hence no more enamel shades for the past year. In the meanwhile, Pawel who worked with me here in Battersea Park Road for two years has returned home to Poland where he has found a company to produce these shades as complete light fittings. I am delighted to report that the quality is superb and the Paris and the Oslo pendants now come in an electric red, battleship grey, jet black and white vitreous enamel with matching ceiling roses and cloth covered flex. New stock from Le Lampe Gras! We have just taken delivery of our first order of La Lampe Gras from Paris. These are a bit of an indulgence for me as they exactly the sort of product that I like to have in my own home. You may remember (depending on your age) that at the end of the 1970s there was a movement called ‘High-Tech’ which was simply the art of taking industrial products and using them in domestic spaces. At the time I was heavily influenced by this and had thought it to be a new concept but photographic evidence shows that the likes of Le Corbusier, Henri Matisse and George Braque had got there long before by using La Lampe Gras is their studios. I guess every generation thinks that they have just re-invented the wheel. What’s new?
