The current winter freeze is set to continue across Europe according to leading meteorologists and, as a result, furriers anticipate an increase in sales of fur garments by up to 10%. Historically, fur sales increase during periods of cold weather and the recent freeze across Northern Europe is set to see sales rocket.

Andreas Lenhart, Chairman of the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), comments:

“Fur sales across Europe have been increasing steadily over the last year and this recent cold weather is already leading to increased business. If we take just Germany and France, a rise in sales as high as 10% is anticipated in addition to the traditional Christmas retail boost. Fur has been keeping us warm for centuries and is just as popular now as ever.”

With over 400 world-class designers including Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano, incorporating fur in a variety of new ways this season, fur remains high on the fashion agenda. Many designers are also ensuring their fur garments carry the Origin Assured OATM label which assures consumers that the fur originates from a country where national or local regulations and standards governing fur production are strictly in force.
