SHARJAH CAREER SHOW TO BRING EMIRATISATION EFFORTS INTO FOCUS

UAE ARMED FORCES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME

SHARJAH

The Emiratisation efforts in the country’s financial institutions will once again be the focus as the latest edition of the National Career Exhibition is set to get under way at Expo Centre Sharjah from February 23-25, 2011.

The National Career Exhibition is the country’s premier job fair that offers employment opportunities to national graduates in the banking and financial sector, and is held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

“With banking being the largest private sector to employ UAE national graduates, the National Career Show becomes significant for both financial establishments and national graduates who are looking for a career in this sector,” said Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, while speaking ahead of the show.

The show is also a key platform to support the government’s Emiratisation efforts and will highlight various initiatives and achievements by official entities entrusted with the task of preparing national graduates to take up jobs in the private sector.

Besides, for the first time, the UAE Armed Forces will be taking part in the show in a big way. The Air Force and Air Defence booth at the show will offer several fields and work specialties to national graduates to choose from. The UAE Navy too will have a booth for the first time and will look to recruit qualified national cadre.

The rate of Emiratisation in banks had reached 34.4 per cent in 2009, while the whole financial sector, which includes banks, insurance, currency exchange and other financial firms, witnessed a two per cent increase in 2009, bringing the rate up to 26 per cent.

The total number of UAE nationals working in the sector reached 13,820 employees in 2009, up from 12,805 in 2008.

The UAE has 23 local banks, with 850 branches, and 28 foreign banks with 157 branches, as of October 2010, according to the UAE Central Bank. The number of money exchanges and their branches across the country stands at 616 as of December 2009.

“Being the economic and financial hub of the region, the country is home to hundreds of local as well as foreign financial institutions. In order to offer efficient services and meet their Emiratisation targets, these institutions are keen to maintain a qualified, well-trained human capital. Our goal is to bring together these institutions and national jobseekers on a single platform," Mr Al Midfa added.

For the upcoming 13th National Career Exhibition, more than 100 local and foreign exhibitors have already confirmed their participation. Apart from job and training opportunities at these organisations, the National Career Exhibition will showcase additional activities in the form of workshops, symposia, counselling and discussion sessions.

Apart from money exchanges, free zones, insurance companies and financial consultants, government departments from the country will also be taking part in the show.

The National Career Exhibition is being organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in association with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Emirates Institute for the Banking and Financial Studies.
