Thomas Lyte is the English luxury lifestyle brand borne out of one man’s
vision to bring English craftsmanship back to England.

Specialising in luxury
leather and silver from distinctive leather bags to playful leather purses,
desirable leather wallets to classic cufflinks, Thomas Lyte ensures that every
item that carries the company’s distinctive logo has been hand-crafted in
England using only the finest quality materials and most experienced
craftspeople.

Disappointed by the removal of much of the country’s manufacturing from
home soil, Kevin Baker, CEO and Founder of Thomas Lyte, established the
company in October 2007 on a strong set of founding principles, ‘Heritage’,
‘Englishness’, ‘Art’, ‘Ethical’ and ‘Modern’, which he feels are truly
synonymous with English luxury. Having very much spearheaded the return
of UK manufacturing, Kevin understands better than most that discerning
buyers are increasingly seeking provenance, craft and individuality.

“High-end
brands that recognise this stand to profit from huge growth in the global
luxury market” says Kevin.

With its own leather and silver workshops, Thomas Lyte is proud to be able to
oversee every step of its production process and truly control the provenance
of its goods, from initial design sketches to the final stitches in a leather purse
or the last polish of a piece of Thomas Lyte Silver.

The Thomas Lyte Silver
workshop is one of the largest dedicated silver workshops in London. Presided
over by master silversmith Kevin Williams, the Thomas Lyte Silver team of
expert silversmiths are responsible for the creation and restoration of some of
sport’s most coveted trophies, as well as exquisite cufflinks, writing
instruments and ladies’ accessories.

The leather workshop, also based in
London, develops beautiful jacquard silk lined bags and wallets. For the most
discerning clientele, Thomas Lyte offers a bespoke service available across the
core collection, guaranteeing a unique and personalised piece of true
craftsmanship at its finest.

With one of the brand’s founding principles being ‘Ethical’, the Thomas Lyte
Foundation is crucial to Kevin Baker’s vision.

The Thomas Lyte Foundation
is a registered charity, to which 10% of all Thomas Lyte profits are donated.
Established upon the belief that when you buy a luxury item your purchase
should help to improve the lives of the people who created it, the Foundation
aims to provide support an encouragement for aspiring English artists,
designers and craftspeople.

These are the people that Kevin Baker see as
fundamental to the future of English luxury.

The name of the brand is rooted in English history. The original Thomas Lyte
was a well-respected historian and genealogist who lived during the Age of
Enlightenment, he presented King James I with a lineage tracing his ancestry,
helping to secure his position on the English throne.

As a reward, the King
gave Thomas Lyte a gold locket encrusted with complex rose-cut diamonds.
These were the first diamonds to be cut in a way that allowed them to sparkle
and were an early example of beauty existing simply for beauty’s sake.! As
Kevin Baker explains “It was an era that saw the birth of the luxury goods
market and that began to value objects for their aesthetic quality as well as
their functionality, a sentiment that remains extremely close to the heart of
the Thomas Lyte brand today”. Inspired by the Thomas Lyte jewel and its
symbolic representation of the ‘Birth of Luxury’, Kevin Baker decided to
resurrect the Thomas Lyte name and begin the ‘Rebirth of Luxury’. !

Today, Thomas Lyte’s aim is to create products that fuse these traditional
values and craftwork with beautiful, contemporary designs that are absolutely
relevant to today’s consumer.

Having previously been available to buy online at www.thomaslyte.com, on 18
November Thomas Lyte will open its flagship store in London’s iconic
Burlington Arcade. An architectural masterpiece that is home to a selection
of brands prizing quality and craftsmanship above all else, the Burlington
Arcade is a fitting location for what will be the first of many Thomas Lyte
stores.

Thomas Lyte, 12-13 Burlington Arcade, Mayfair, London.
