For example, a heart rate monitor that can be strapped to the chest and reviewed throughout the workout.

Watches enable the individual to constantly monitor how the workout is progressing and whether any changes need to be made. By simply turning the wrist over, the person can gauge their pace or how far they have gone. The other mechanisms cannot be viewed until the workout is over, require a lot of button pushing, or interrupt streaming music.

After a run is complete, the individual can then transfer the data onto their computer by using an USB cord, normally. Comparison to previous workouts allows them to see how successful their training is and where they need to be focused on improvement. Since an athlete can only add a limited number of miles per week, this can be very useful information.

Effective and efficient training is gained by reviewing progress and focusing on areas which need more work. Running watches are a great mechanism to enable this to be done rather easily. As there are numerous versions and brands available on the market today, pricing should not be a big issue.
