Can I apply for the Green Card Lottery if I am not from an eligible country?

If you are not from a qualifying country, you can apply if your spouse if from an
eligible country. But both the applicant and the spouse have to enter the US
together if selected. All the children under 21 listed in the entrant's application
can accompany their parents during the US visit. You can also qualify through
the country of birth of either of your parents as long as neither of your parents
was a resident of an ineligible country at the time of your birth.

Is every applicant limited to only one application for the Green Card
Lottery?

Make sure that you submit only one application. You will be disqualified if you
submit more than one application. A husband and wife can each submit one
application if they satisfy the eligibility requirements for the Green Card Lottery
program.

Am I eligible to apply in the Green Card Lottery?

There are some basic eligibility criteria that an applicant has to meet to register
for the USA Green Card Lottery. Here are some of the eligibility criteria:

1.

You need to be born in an eligible country (almost all countries qualify
with the exception of few countries)

2.

You should have a high school education or 2 years of work experience in
a required field.

Should I submit my own application or can someone submit one on my
behalf to the Green Card Lottery?

You may prepare an application yourself or have someone submit one for you.

What about the signature on the application and photographs?

Signatures are not required on the Green Card Lottery form. However, recent
and individual photographs of you, your spouse and all children under 21 years
of age are required. You should not submit family or group photographs. If
photographs do not meet the required specifications, your application will be
automatically rejected.

How will the winners be selected?

All the applications received will be given separate numbers at the Kentucky
Consular Center. Then a computer will randomly select from the available
application pool for each geographic region. Since it is done this way, all
applications have an equal chance of getting selected in the Green Card Lottery
program. Selected applicants will be notified by mail. This letter will have
instructions for the visa application process. The Kentucky Consular Center will
send appointment letters to the winners four to six weeks before the interview
with the US consular officers overseas.

How do I get started on the application?

This October, the Green Card Lottery of 2012 will begin. Please keep checking
